Distinguished Prof. Phil Taylor, the Director of the ARC Centre for Fruit Fly Biosecurity Innovation, was interviewed by Victorian Country Hour, part of the ABC Radio. During the interview, Prof. Taylor discussed some promising results obtained from a pilot Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) program which ran from September 2019 to mid-April 2020 in Hillston (NSW) and Cobram (VIC). The program involved releasing sterile Queensland fruit flies every week from a plane and is part of the Hort Innovation project "Post Factory Pilot of SITPlus Fly Production". Prof. Taylor also provided an insight on how SIT works and the threats that fruit flies can pose to interstate and international trade.
